This list is in the process of being updated to WHMIS 2015. The format recorded here is still available here. It will be maintained in Pharos at least until the transition to WHMIS 2015 is complete (planned for December 1, 2018). This list is expected to remain static until then. A FAQ is available.

The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is Canada's national hazard communication standard. As a national policy, it is administered by Health Canada (see Health Canada's WHMIS site). WHMIS defines criteria for classifying substances based on a number of physical and toxicological hazard endpoints.

The provincial government of Québec's Commission de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CSST, Workplace Health and Safety Commission) maintains a public, non-exhaustive database of controlled substances classified in compliance with WHMIS. This database, the Toxicological Index Service, is the source of WHMIS classifications in Pharos.

Note recent changes as Canada implements GHS:

The Hazardous Products Act (HPA) has been amended, and the WHMIS requirements for hazard classification and communication set out in the Controlled Product Regulations(CPR) and the Ingredient Disclosure List repealed and replaced with new regulations, theHazardous Products Regulations (HPR). This modified WHMIS is referred to as WHMIS 2015. The HPA and HPR regulate suppliers of hazardous products (defined as persons who, in the course of business, sell or import a hazardous product) while federal, provincial and territorial (FPT) occupational health and saf
