Silicone coatings are used for waterproofing or restoring existing roof systems as well as for weather protection for spray foam roofing. They are commonly used on commercial or residential roofs to reflect heat and UV rays and help seal and protect the roofing surface from water intrusion. These products can be used on top of aged single ply membranes (TPO, PVC, and EPDM), aged asphalt roofs (built up roofing, modified bitumen), spray foam, metal, concrete, and previously coated roofs. They are one-component systems that are moisture-cured upon application. Standard silicone roof coatings contain 10-50% hydrocarbon solvents. This CP describes a high solids version that is free of hydrocarbon solvents. These coatings contain silicone prepolymers, fillers, pigments, and cyclosiloxane monomer, D4, along with various additives. Accesories including cleaners and primers may be required for some products and some substrates but are outside the scope of this CP. Care must be taken during application to prevent rooftop HVAC systems from introducing silicone vapors into interior areas during coating application. While typically advertised as roof coatings, some products are also advertised for above-grade waterproofing for vertical and horizontal applications.
