More about High Density Fiberboard (HDF)

High density fiberboard (HDF) is sometimes also referred to as hardboard, though hardboard can also be a more general term for composite woods broadly. HDF is commonly used for non-load bearing interior applications, and can be carved and shaped by methods typically used for solid wood. While other forms of composite wood are increasingly being made with low or no added formaldehyde binders, according to industry sources, this trend does not yet extend to HDF. This CP therefore describes an HDF panel manufactured from wood chips and formaldehyde-based resin. Note that HDF intended for exterior applications may contain a fungicide.
