More about Spray-applied Fiberglass Insulation

Loose-fill fiberglass insulation can be spray applied to cavities in a wet application method. This type of application can involve either a loose-fill fiberglass pre-mixed with a dry adhesive which is activated with application of water on-site or by mixing a standard type loose-fill fiberglass insulation with a water-based adhesive as applied. A new type of product involves interlocking fibers which do not require the use of an adhesive, but still uses a small amount of water added on site. The two component type, where loose-fill fiberglass is mixed with a wet adhesive and additional water on site appears to be most common and is covered in this CP. Spray-applied fiberglass insulation is most typically used in new construction with open wall cavities. The spray application helps to fill gaps to minimize air leakage.
