Framework
A fundamental aspect of the Pharos Project is striving to make building material evaluations as comprehensive as possible – encompassing health, sustainability and social justice issues throughout the life cycle. To facilitate this vision, the Project
- proposes a framework of analysis based upon a set of categories (e.g., occupant exposure, renewable materials)
- identifies an ideal goal in each category
- establishes criteria for evaluating progress toward that ideal.
In each set of categories, we seek to include indicators that have not been well measured by traditional life cycle analysis tools, such as whether a material poses a chemical health hazard, creates indoor exposures, or includes materials that are sustainable. Click here for a full description of the proposed framework for analysis.
The category descriptions linked below are just a start to the discussion. What do you think should be the key indicators in each category? Are there new categories of analysis that should be included?
We welcome your engagement through your comments to help shape the future of materials selection.
