More about Silyl-terminated Polyether Sealant

Silyl-terminated polyether sealants are single-component, moisture-cured sealants. They typically contain the base polymer, filler, plasticizer, catalyst and various other additives. The sealants are often referred to as hybrid or modified polymer sealants. There may be variations in the chemistry of different types of modified polymer sealants, so this CP focuses on products identified as silane-modified polyethers. These sealants are often touted as environmentally-friendly, being free of solvents and isocyanates, however, phthalate plasticizers and tin catalysts are still common. Methanol is a product of the crosslinking reaction and is given off during cure. These sealants are elastomeric with movement capability of +/- 25% or more and can be used to seal interior and exterior gaps including siding and around windows and doors.
